Long Haul Flights - Offsetting carbon Emmissions

A trip to Tanzania obviously involves a long haul flight. However Simply Tanzania does not believe the damage to the environment can simply be off set by buying one of the current offers on the market - eg tree planting; fuel efficient stoves etc. There is little evidence to suggest that these schemes do what they claim.
The answer must surely be to fly less - so use the train for those European holidays - and just take your one long haul flight to Tanzania.
If you travel with Simply Tanzania we can put you in touch with many development projects and NGOs worthy of support - so in this way some good can come out of your visit.
One such project that we support is Tanzania Rural Revival - assisting people in Makete District in SW Tanzania. Here HIV/Aids has been very extensive leaving many orphans and badly affecting the local economy. Money is being sent on a regular basis to assist with the running costs of the orphanage and we are also helping orphans in the primary schools with uniforms and shoes. We hope to assist with income generating activities later.

Peaceful Elections

Peaceful elections were held at the end of last year and the new president - Jakaya Kikwete - has been sworn in, replacing the highly respected outgoing president - Benjamin Mkapa.
Once again Tanzania has demonstrated a mature democratic approach to politics and the country stands out as a beacon in the region. The country is peaceful but the new president has some major problems to confront - lack of electricity, rural poverty, HIV/aids, and access to clean water being some of the main priorities.
At the national level Tanzania is doing well - a good growth rate, low inflation, and a reduction in debt, all pointing to better future.
Tourism is benefitting from the stability and the Northern circuit - Serengeti/Ngorongoro - is particularly busy. Simply Tanzania is urging our clients to consider the less crowded delights of the South - Selous, Ruaha, Udzungwa and the Southern Highlands.

Climbing Kilimanjaro?

Try Simply Tanzania – we have been part of Tourism Concern’s campaign to ensure that porters have decent working conditions, and equipment. We have negotiated an agreement with our partner operator in Tanzania setting out fair terms and conditions for the porters. Be confident that your holiday does not mean exploitation of local people – and travel with us.
